TAMARILLO WINS BADMINTON HORSE TRIALS
In 1995 a three year old gelding bred at Biddesden (Tamarillo) became Champion Part Bred at the National show. In 2002 he was placed second at Badminton Horse Trials and in the Autumn of 2002 represented Great Britain at the World Eventing Championship in Jerez. In 2004 he won Badminton Horse Trials and went to Athens in the British Olympic team.
Tamarillo has completed Badminton 3 times, he has won and been second twice a remarkable achievement!
2005 Tamarillo is 2nd at Badminton, individual silver medal at the European Championships and Gold for team GB!
2004 TAMARILLO WINS BADMINTON HORSE TRIALS
His dam and grand dam, in-fact 4 generations of the female line have all been bred at Biddesden. Our aim is not merely to produce Arabians of the highest class but to do so consistently. The two mares Starilla and Dafinetta came to Biddesden from Crabbet Park in 1939. Almost all the horses at the stud today descended from one or both of these mares. We believe in continuity in the bloodlines that we use but continuity must not be at the expense of excellence. We were lucky enough to have good mares to start with and they have provided us with the strong foundations on which to build.

European Championships Blenheim 2005
Once again Tamarillo has proved what a fantastic horse he is. He produced a very accurate dressage test, a little harshly marked, most would agree. Followed by a faultless Cross Country round. This brought him up overnight on the last day to 4th place.
After a clear, but cheeky Show Jumping, he finished in 2nd place. This gave him the individual Silver Medal and Team GB Gold!

World Games Aachen 2006
Aachen is an amazing venue. The arenas had near perfect going, they were massive and everything was very well organised.
Since Badminton Tam has been having lots of Physiotherapy and even Acupuncture! It was felt after the Badminton Dressage result that something was bothering him. He does seem to be much improved and going in a softer and nicer out-line.
In Aachen William felt he gave him some of the best canter work he has ever done. This left him in 8th place out of about 80 horses, so everyone was pleased.
The XC was big and very technical causing a lot of problems. At the third element to one of the fences (a narrow arrow head) Tam skipped out around! As did eight other horses. William feels he approached the skinny too fast. Unfortunately that one mistake cost Tam the Gold Medal!
As you can imagine William was gutted as were all the team. Tam went on to SJ a very good clear round on the Sunday, as did five out of the six British Team members. A brilliant result.
Some of the Tam supporters! Rebecca, Rory and Finn hiding behind a flag! Rebecca and Rory flew in from New York to support Tam. Rebecca works in fashion and Rory has a rock band. www.ilashmusic.com
What can we say about Zara! An amazing result on an amazing horse and we send them lots of congratulations!!

People are always very interested in Tamarillo's breeding. His dam Mellita was out of a pure bred arab mare called 'Darya'. She came from one of the foundation mare lines at Biddesden. Mellita's sire was the very useful TB stallion 'Master Spiritus'. He produced a lot of very good Point to Pointers and Eventers in his day. Mellita proved to be a very good hunter for Mary Guinness and at the age 12 yrs went eventing. Unfortunately she only had the two foals, as she was such a good ridden horse. She had two sons, both by the PBA stallion 'Tarnik'. At the age of 3 yrs her second son 'Telemachus' severed a tendon in the field. This was all the more sad as that year in the show ring he had won at all of the local County shows.

Tarnik

The bay stallion Tarnik, was bred at the Janow Podlaski stud in Poland. He was registered as a Malowpolski in Poland and as a Part Bred Arab in England. Tarnik excelled in the compulsory stallion tests in Poland as a young horse, proving to be a particularly good jumper. After coming to England he won the stallion class at Ascot in 1977 and was Reserve British National Champion. Many will remember him winning the Marathon that year, beating Ansty, the mare who set the record time when she won the following year. He also competed successfully in dressage, show jumping and cross country.
Biddesden retained a daughter of the Ansty and Tarnik mating, her name was Teasle. She had a huge impact on the sport horse breeding at Biddesden. Photographs of just some of her off spring are towards the end of this home page.
Teasle fat and happy aged 22yrs. Dec. 2006. Unfortunately she died about one month after this photo was taken, she will be missed.

We have a weaned dark bay filly out of Teasle born 2006 by Dhruv this filly looks very much like her dam. She also has a two year old grey filly, a Scorzonera look a like.
ALL THE HORSES BELOW ARE OUT OF TEASLE. BIDDESDEN HAS RETAINED HER DAUGHTER SCORZONERA AND MARY GUINNESS ONWS HER SON SISYMBRIUM.

The stallion Dhruv was born at Biddesden in 1979. He was by the legendary El Shaklan. In his day he won many major show titles undersaddle and inhand. We have some beautiful progeny of his at Biddesden. Most notably his son Sisyrinchium and his daughter Branta.

Katey is being trained by Lizzie Murray and Corinne Bracken she joined the team at Biddesden in July 2006. Her previous interests have been Point to Pointing and she was also second in the National Team Chase Championships in 2005.

One of the Connemara x Thoroughbred youngsters sold on, doing very well in Scotland. He is called 'Dunlewey Faraway'.

PERSIFLAGE - more recent photos of Persiflage can be seen on the news page,
Persiflage was born at Biddesden in 2002. He has exceptional movement and conformation and it was decided to take him as a young horse to Ireland to cover some Connemara mares. He was taken to Donnegal where he stood at the Dunlewey stud. He covered several mares and has left some useful youngstock in Ireland. These possibly will come to Biddesden in the future.
He was also broken in Ireland and as a four year old we are told is very good at big ditches!! He is by the famous TB stalliion 'Primitive Rising' out of a Pure Bred mare called 'Doyenne'. 'Doyenne is by the French Arab stallion 'Pavot al Mauray'. The French Arabs, tend to be bigger horses and usually performance tested. Her breeding is mainly flat racing. She has however been sold to an Endurance competitor and she seems to be going very well. Persiflage is registered Anglo Arab, he will be standing at Biddesden in 2007 to a limited number of mares. He is Katey's project and we hope to event him in the Spring of 2007. His first run hopefully will be at Moreton on the 21st March.

Sakuntala and Dhruv continue to have beautiful foals. This filly was sold before weaning! She is called Sophora. Look out for her in 2006. She has gone to Suffolk to join her full brother Symphytum.
Both are owned by Angela Flemming. The family have such beautiful temperaments that Angela could not resist buying another one!
NEWS FROM CANADA

Above is a photo of Vanessa riding another Dhruv bred eventer.
He is called Erodium, he is showing great promise, by Emilion x Calamintha by Dhruv.
This photo of Erodium was taken in the USA Spring 2007. He has been placed at all of his events this Spring.
Now in 2008 he is competing at Intermediate level and had been placed each time out.
When Vanessa went home to Canada, she bought a half sister to Tamarillo, Thais. The mare was a great success and went to Intermediate level very quickly. However after a leg injury her career came to a halt. She was flown home last year and below is a picture of her 2006 foal by Grafik.

Drosera - by Dante ex Teasle age 2yrs.

Very sad news for Jo, Drosera is now sold. She is going to a very good home and we hope she will be a very good ridden horse.
.
Whilst Tamarillo was winning team Gold at Blenheim we took two fillies to the Uk Anglo and Part Bred Championships.
Sal-volatile won the Anglo yearlings and Drosera won her class and then the Championship, so all in all the stud had a very good week-end!
