Sisyrinchium is producing some excellent young event horses.

He is the sire of a young event horse called Sisymbrium,  who is owned by Mary Guinness and is with Dan Jocelyn.

Sisymbrium

He has just completed a very nice double clear in the Open Novice at Great Tew.  This was very pleasing as the show jumping was quite tricky with a lot of related distances and downhill to the first two fences.  He has been quite tricky to steer on the XC but Dan has taken it slowly and it was nice to see him have a proper gallop on this course.  Hopefully photo to follow.

5 yr old by Sisyrinchium

The three photos above are of Marcus Reid's young event horse by Sisyrinchium.  He was placed at his second British Eventing competition.  Marcus is very excited about this young horse.  Sisyrinchium is producing top class sport horses and the opportunity to use him at stud for this purpose should not be missed.  We look forward to following this horse with Marcus and his half brother with Dan Jocelyn.

Above is a photo of the Pure Bred filly out of Perfect Kossack.  Perfect is by the World famous stallion Ballaton.  We are extremely pleased with this filly, she is by Sisyrinchium.

Drosera with her day old foal above.  Drosera was bred at Biddesden, she is by Dante out of Teasle.  She is on loan her for a season as her owner Angela Dunn was busy with her own baby.  The foal is by the TB Stallion Sirillio.

Eventing news

Imbroglio and Plantago continue to improve.  Plantago's full brother has just completed his first 4yr old class.  He was very green in the show jumping, very scary flowers!  But was very good xc.   Photos below.

Pimpernel is for sale.  He is 16.2.

Below is a photo of Sisymbrium competing at Aldon.  Ridden by Dan Jocelyn.

Exciting news, Sirillio is going to stand in Ireland.  It was felt he was not being used enough with us and the opportunity to stand him at a very good Sport Horse stud in Ireland came up.  We do have two very nice yearling colts by him, also more foals due this year.

He will be standing for the 2010  season at     -      http://www.bridgehousestudireland.com

Below are photos from 2009 and training through the winter.

Grafik

Grafik has come back into work after 4years away at stud.  He has now been gelded and is having a happier time.

Elam

Pure Bred Yearling colt.

Elam is feeling the joys of spring.  We have him turned out with two infoal mares who hopefully will keep his manners smart.

Persiflage

He is an 8 yr old Anglo Arab stallion by Primitive Rising.

Sisyrinchium becomes more beautiful with age, we took some lovely photos of him playing in the snow.

We are very excited about having two pure bred arab mares in foal to Sisyrinchium.  The stud was getting very short of pure bred arabs, as most of the mares were related to Sisyrinchium.  Therefore the mare Perfect Kossack, by Balaton was bought last year.  Another mare was leased from Argos Hill Arabians.  She is called Kryzstal.  As you can see from the photo  below she has a very extreme head.

Sirillio TB stallion

As mentioned at the top of the news page, Sirillio has now gone to Ireland to stand at stud.

Marcus Reid is a great friend of ours, over the years he has ridden for Mary and Finn.  He now lives in Shropshire running a yard of very useful sport horses.  He has a 4 year old by Sisyrinchium that is extremely exciting, memories of a young Tamarillo come to mind when watching the horse move.  His beautiful action and early jumping skills appear effortless.   He is Anglo Arab, out of a Thoroughbred mare by Euphemism.  He is pictured below.

www.paulineoliverfotos.com              once on Paulines website, please go to Albums

Pauline  took some photos in the stables.  Below is a lovely photograph of Sisyrinchium and his son Elam.  We are hoping that Elam might be a colt good enough to carry on his sires line.

Elam's dam was loaned to Biddesden by Patricia Lindsay.  She is out of the beautiful Polish mare, Etnas Echo by Ban Kulin.

ELAM

Sarah Bullen's 3 year old colt by All That Jazz, called Nat King Cole, won the 3 yr old section at the British Eventing Breeding classes at Tweseldown.

Nat King Cole

The first of the Jazz progeny are now old enough to be backed.  We have started with one of his daughters called Annaliese.  We also have a very big strong 3 yr old of his in the yard for backing.  He is called Alcibiades he is now hacking around a small ride.  Both of these youngsters are for sale.

Persiflage

Erodium

Erodium is doing  well in pure show jumping in Canada.  He is not very big!  He is out of Calamintha a Pure Bred mare who was by Dhruv by the International show jumping stallion Emillion.

At the British Equestrian Federation breeding evaluations at Catherston 2009.  Schnapps was awarded top marks scoring 9.5 from the vet.  He was reserve champion in the eventing section.  He is slightly heavier than our normal event horses and really he would have done as well in the dressage section as he is such a good mover.  Photo below aged 2yrs.

Imbroglio, first event 2009 and first drop!

photo by John Britter Photography, also the photo below.

We took 10 horses to Malvern, so quite a busy time.  The young performance horses all did well in dressage and jumping and we paraded two stallions on the Saturday for the Premium Scheme.  Once again Dhruv won the Endurance sire award.

The above photo is of Stramonium, yearling gelding - by Sisyrinchium out of Tiger Lily.  He is a registered PBA He has the most fabulous front and will make a top class Riding Horse, at County level.

The above photo is of the yearling colt Salvelinus, he is again by Sisyrinchium out of a mare by Tarnik, Tamarillo's sire (Eucryphia).  Once again he has the most fabulous front a thing that Sisyrinchium passes on to his stock.  This colt will go to Ireland to cover some of Kieran Guinness's Connemara's and Thorough Breds.  Hopefully to return to Biddesden, when older.

Fairies's Farewell, TB mare by Broadsword with Sisyrinchium foal 2009 called Sorbet.

Below is a recent photograph of Erodium show jumping in Canada.  He by the International Show jumping stallion Emilion out of a Pure Bred Arab mare by Dhruv.  He is competing in 1.35m classes at the moment.  Vanessa Fenwick his rider was based at Biddesden for a number of years.

Persiflage completed his first CCI 1* at Houghton.  What a fabulous event, bathed in sunshire!  He finished on his dressage score which was brilliant.  Unfortunately the dressage score could have been better, but his XC was faultless and he gave Katey a brilliant ride, not hesitating anywhere.  He then went on to jump a good clear SJ round on the Sunday.  Lots of photos below

Below is a photograph of Sirillio's first foal and hopefully Biddesdens's first TB race horse!

Both Sire and Dam have won under rules.

Filly foal by Sirillio out of Rattina

Jazz is back at home at Biddesden for a short while.  We are hoping to use him to cover some mares inhand.  He is also hacking to start his fitness work.

We now have our first 3 foals.  Two fillies and one colt.  All are doing well, photos to follow shortly.

The event season has started.  Persiflage had his first Intermediate run at Somerley Park on Wednesday.  We were thrilled with him.  His dressage still needs work but his jumping was very pleasing.  The SJ and CX were well up to height.  See the photos below.  He looks like he enjoyed it all!

Persi completed a double clear at Hambledon.  He is going to do a few weeks dressage before heading for Houghton CCI *.

Persiflage 2009 Tweseldown Novice

Persi 2009 Intermediate Somerley

There are many good photos of Persi's sire Primitive Rising, we thought people might like to see something of the dam line.  His dam Doyenne is pictured below and her dam below that.  Doyenne is a very good Endurance mare and her dam Difayah was a very good sprinter.

Persi's Grand dam Difayah coming into the paddock after winning.

Persi Intermediate Somerley Park

We are starting to get some of the youngsters back to the yard for spring shows.  Schnapps is a registered PBA by Sisyrinchium out of an Advanced event mare called Damson Gin.  He has very good limbs and exceptional movement.  We have high hopes of him making a good sport horse.  He will mature around 16.1h.

Turkish Candle

Turkish Candle has been a fantastic school master for Katey.  Above is a photo of her jumping at Weston Park 2* her last event.   She will be 15 next year and she will be going back to stud.

Hopefully we will use AI on her with the SJ stallion Indoctro.

Katey is very sad, but knows the horses value as a brood mare.  She is looking forward to competing Turkish Candle's four year daughter by Indoctro ( Indoctro is an international Show Jumping stallion).  She is called Imbroglio and is so like her dam to look at it is uncanny.  We are hoping she will be as good, with a touch more show jumping ability.  The photo below is Imbroglio standing with Turkish Candle.  She has started grid lessons and seems to find it all very easy.  Hopefully Katey can ride her in a few intros.  Pyrus is also going well and will start to jump small grips in the next few weeks.  We are extremely lucky to have Pat Burgess teaching at our indoor school.

Great News, Imbroglio has just won her first unaffiliated dressage.

It will be hard to try and remember that Imbroglio is only 4yrs old as she seems to do everything with such ease.  Here is a photo of her first XC schooling lesson.

Hammurabi and Finn at Biddesden meet.

Hammurabi is now 20yrs old and still enjoys his hunting.

TAMARILLO WINS BURGHLEY HORSE TRIALS 2008

FANTASTIC NEWS, TAM HAS WON BURGHLEY.  AFTER THE DISAPPOINTMENT OF NOT GOING TO HONG KONG TO THE OLYMPICS, IT IS WONDERFUL THAT HE HAS WON THIS GREAT EVENT.  HIS STABLE COMPANION BALLINCOOLA WAS SECOND.  THIS IS AN AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR WILLIAM.  WE WILL HAVE PHOTOS IN A FEW DAYS.

AFTER A NAIL BITTING, LAST ROUND OF THE DAY WILLIAM HAD THIS COMMENT AT THE PRESS CONFERENCE -

"But after what he did yesterday I think he's allowed to have two down. He made the cross-country feel easy and I don't think I'll have many horses like that in my last few years eventing."

We are all thrilled and very, very pleased for William.

Tam's cake

Unfortunately the dog rather fancied Tam's cake on the way home!  We would really like to thank Alex Tam's groom at Burghley for all the hard work.  I think that the public do not realise just how much work is involved the evening after the XC to keep these horses well.  The cake will be going to Tam's nephew to try and boost his super star status!  Tam is not allowed the 'e' nos.

The British Equestrian Federation breeding classes at Catherston went very well for Biddesden.  The day started well with Lizzie and Will Murray’s foal ‘Catherston Roundabout’ being awarded top marks in the foal section.  The filly is by Biddesden’s resident Connemara stallion ‘Dunlewey Rigmarole’.  Then later in the day a 2yr old bred at Biddesden by their Anglo Arab stallion ‘All That Jazz’ received the highest marks in that section.  The very last class of the day saw another horse from Biddesden, Dunlewey Pyrus.  He is by Biddesden’s other Anglo stallion ‘Persiflage’ (Primitive Rising) out of a Connemara mare.  He was awarded the highest pony marks for the three year olds with a temperament score of 9.25 and also 9.25 for his jumping.  The competition is always very well run and a good show case for breeders, it also proves people go to buy as Biddesden had a number of enquires for the pony after the show.

Ajax

Ajax has now been sold.  We wish his new owners lots of luck with him.

Cahterston Roundabout

Dunleway Pyrus

Pyrus is now sold.  We are expecting his full brother Dunlewey Prunus, who is slightly bigger to arrive any day from Ireland for Jo to break in.

AHS National show Malvern 2008

Sisyrinchium 17 years!

The photos of Sisy where taken by Sweet Photography

We have also been to Malvern for three days at the National Arab Show.  Sisyrinchium was second in the Veterans, it  seems impossible that he is 17 years old.  He looked fabulous, he then went on to be reserve champion.

The above photos from Malvern are all taken by Pleasure Prints.

We had another very pleasing day with Persiflage at Stonar.  Most people take young horses to Stonar, as it has a reputation of  being a fairly easy course.  However not this time!  Huge amounts of competitors had stops at two particular fences on the course.  Many were eliminated or retired.  We we all the more thrilled as Persiflage jumped a double clear.

Persiflage jumping Novice at Stonar

We have decided to cover Scorzonera this year to take a foal from her before she is too old.  She will be covered by the Thorough Bred stallion standing a Biddesden, 'Sirillio'.

Erodium pictured below belongs to a friend in Canada.  He is out of a Dhruv mare.  He is having a very good season in the USA 2008 and was recently 4th in an Open Intermediate.

Erodium in USA

Erodium

Vanessa is having a great season with Erodium in the States.  He recently completed a 2*.  She is going to spend the next few months concentrating on his dressage.  He is a fabulous mover, but looses marks being a little unsteady in the head.

Grafik has gone to stand in Ireland for 2008.  He is with Kieran Guinness in Dublin at the moment.

Persiflage had a good outing at Larkhill on Saturday.  The Weather was atrocious.  Larkhill can seem like the coldest  place on earth when the wind blows!  Although he had two poles down in the show jumping, the course was tough with lots of faults for most people.  The wind was blowing flowers about and making it all very spooky.  The second fence he had down he hardly saw, as he found the areana party grouping for shelter very spooky!  But he jumped well and we were pleased as it was only his second Novice.

All That Jazz - 2008

Jazz stayed in work this winter, at William's yard.  He has spent a lot of time hunting with the South and West Wilts in Dorset.

DHRUV  1979 - 2007   by El Shaklan ex Despina

Unfortunately it was necessary to have Dhruv put down in December.  He had an enlarged Thyroid Gland that had grown to massive proportions.  He very suddenly went off his food and we think that he may have found swallowing difficult.  He had been very well up to this point.  He was a spritely two year old when Jo started to work at the stud.  Over the years he won many major show titles, both inhand and under saddle.  Including -

1st and Champion Wales and West Inhand and under saddle at the same show 1985

1st and Reserve Champion Wessex Inhand and under saddle at the same show 1986

1st and Champion at The Royal  Bath and West 1992

1st at the Royal Show 1986

1st National Breed Show Ascot 1987

3rd Europeans Championships Frauenfeld Switzerland 1988 2nd in the Dressage at same show.

1st Towerlands International 1989 and 1990

1st Hocon 'C' show 1991

1st AHS National show Malvern 1992

1st AHS National show Malvern 1996 Reserve British National Champion.

He has left some exceptional progeny in this country.  His son Sisyrinchium has himself won British National Champion under saddle at the breed show.  Sisyrinchium stands at Biddesden.  He has a full brother, who is also entire owned by Angela Flemming in Suffolk.  Dhruv sired many progeny both Pure Bred, Anglo and Part Bred Arab.  He was used many times with Biddesden's wonderful mare Sakuntala.  They produced nine foals together!  All very good Pure Breds with exceptional conformation, movement and fabulous temperaments.  There names are - Sisyrinchium, Sidalcea, Skimmia, Symphytum, Salsola, Salsifis, Santolina, Sanguinaria and Sophora.  There is a slim chance that Sakuntala may be infoal we will just have to wait and see.

As the weeks go on, I am glad to say, I do think that Sakuntala is in foal.  So hopefully we will still have one more Dhruv foal.

We are lucky enough to have five Dhruv mares and fillies, some of these are for sale.

Scorzonera on roads and tracks.

NEWS FROM CANADA

Erodium was bred at Biddesden.  He is now owned and ridden by Vanessa Fenwick in Canada.  He has been placed each event this season and Vanessa has great hopes for him.  He is out of a Pure Bred mare, who was called Calamintha by Dhruv.

PERSIFLAGE

Persiflage completed his season on a very good note at Purston Manor.  He was in a very hot Pavo section.  His dressage had improved and he just had one show jump down.  The cross country went very well, with a few new questions for him.  He took them all in his stride and seemed very confident.  He is really starting to enjoy the cross country and take Katey to the fences, as can be seen in the photos below.

Before going to Purston, he completed the NASTA stallion grading and was given very good marks.  He passed, Grade 1 'Elite'.

SCORZONERA

Katey rode Turkish Candle for the first time at Intermediate level at Spring Hill.  They had a few poles in the show jumping but it was up to height and lots of people had faults.  Turkish Candle made the cross country seem easy and finished in 10th place.

Persiflage

Above is a photo of Persiflage competing at Gatcombe in the 5yr old Young Event Horse Class.  He did very well and also coped with the buzzy atmosphere well.  He was given nearly top marks for his conformation and reasonable marks for the other sections.  He was in very smart company and considering he was not broken in this time last year he did well.

News from Canada

Erodium

Pictured above is Erodium competing in Canada with Vanessa.  He was placed 6th in a tough competition and Vanessa is thrilled with him.  He is by the International Show Jumper 'Emilion'.  He certainly seems to have inherited his jump.

From left to right, Mary, Heather, Katey and Finn having a day out at Barbury Castle.  Or was it a Sun glasses rally?

2007

Our first foal of the year is a nice big bay colt by All that Jazz out of a mare called Sedaza.  Sedaza is exceptionally well bred, being by Navarone a son of

Jus de PommeJus de Pomme won a Gold Medal at the Olympics in Altanta for show jumping.  This colt surely has a great future ahead of him in the sport horse world.

We now have our second foal, ex. Damson Gin by Sisyrinchium.  Damson Gin competed at Advanced level in British Eventing and she is by Dutch Courage.  He is a beautiful bay colt with fabulous movement.  This really will be a star of the future.

colt by Sisyrinchium ex Damson Gin

colt by Sisyrinchium ex Tiger Lily

Above is another Sisyrinchium foal out of Tiger Lily, he has a beautiful head and front.  Tiger Lily was bred in Ireland by Mary Guinness and she is by Euphemism (TB).  Tiger in her day was Mirabel's best hunter.

Branta and Fairie's Farewell

Both Fairie's Farewell and Branta have now foaled.  Fairie's has a bright bay filly, by Grafik.  Branta has a beautiful Pure Bred Colt by Isfahan.  Photos of the foals to  follow when weather improves!

Fairie's Farewell will be covered by Persiflage.

Branta has travelled to Bedfordshire to be covered by the Pure Bred stallion Maximus.

Branta in her glamorous years won many prizes.

LVA Maximus

Above is a photo of Maximus he is a multi champion both here and in Europe.  He is by Espano Estopa out of Challon Salana who is by Carmargue.

Surely these two beautiful arabians can produce a champion.  Maximus stands in Bedfordshire.

Tattershalls three day event in Ireland, All That Jazz finished second.

Fantastic news - All That Jazz 2nd in his first 3 day!  Out of 96 riders Jazz  moved up to 2nd.  See result table below.

Mary and Rebecca went out to Ireland to  support All That Jazz in his first 3 day.  CCI*

Jazz rode his test in a real down pour at Tattersalls.  He stayed very calm and worked well.  After the two days of tests with 96 horses in his class he was lying in 5th position.  We are thrilled with this.  Day three, he completed in the XC, clear and inside the time, which leaves him in the same position.

Show Jumping day, raining again.  However Jazz jumped a beautiful clear round to move him up to second place.  William is very pleased with him. William was also third in the same class on Imran and brilliantly went on to win the 2** on Trinity Hill.  What a great result.

These are Jazz's impressive results so far.

The competition horses are all going very well.

Whilst Jazz was getting his prize in Ireland Katey and Scorzonera headed off to Moreton in Dorset.  Her dressage trainer Lizzie was at the event and Katey tried really hard with the extra pressure.  Scorzonera is not easy, but again we felt an improvement was made.  She then show jumped well with just one fence down.  The XC was a step up for her with quite a large corner and her first jump into water over a fence landing in the water.  She took them all in her stride and went clear.

Scorzonera was placed for the first time at PN - Aston Le Walls.  She competed in deep mud for a change and it did not seem to bother her at all.

Scorzonera loves her food!  Something about the angle of this photo makes her look even fatter.

Our hope is to do a couple more Pre Novice classes with Scorzonera, then move her up to Novice for one event.

Alcedo and Ajax having a chat!

These two yearlings, both geldings are by All That Jazz.

Grafik is looking very well this Spring.  Some mares have now arrived for him and we are busy covering.

Stradbally Bill has left Biddesden for his new home in County Cork, Ireland.  See the Connemara page for details of his new home.  Below is a photo of his son, who is now at Biddesden.

Dunlewey Rigmarole by Stradbally Bill

Rigmarole has now arrived from Ireland.  Two mares have arrived for him this week.  We may take him to the Connemara show at Morton Morrell, depending on other commitments.  He has a beautiful big eye and is very kind.  He is slightly smaller than his sire.  But with the problems show horses are having with measuring out of their height bracket, we think this is a good thing for the breed.  He is an ideal choice for larger show mares.

Katey competed Estrilda at the National Team Chase Championships.  They were placed at Intermediate level, Estrilda was bold and led the team.

Estrilda

Turkish Candle had her first British Eventing run for a few years.  She did a good dressage test.  She had two poles down in the show jumping, but considering she has not done any schooling for 7 years, since being a brood mare, she did well.  She thoroughly enjoyed the cross country, as did Katey.  It was nice for Katey to be taken around on such a bold horse.  When one spends nearly every ride on a youngster, it is a thrill to ride a school master and very good for Katey's confidence.

Persiflage

He has been having SJ lessons, jumping bigger fences, we felt he was just disrespectful of the small fences.  However his XC was very fluent and good.  In an ideal world we would like Novice height SJ for him and still Intro XC!

Below are two photos of Erodium  taken at his first events this Spring in the USA.  He has been placed in all his events and he will move up a level this Spring.
